About Kenji
Education opened every door for us. We want it to for every student.
We’re two founders. One of us is a first-generation student.
Why Kenji exists
A teacher can only be at one board at a time. When the lesson ends, the student who got stuck goes home alone, and the step they missed goes home with them.
We’re two co-founders in Boston. Our families gave up a lot so we could learn. They stretched to pay for better schools and for one-to-one teaching, and it changed where we ended up. Later, one of us tutored students himself. From both sides we saw the same thing: teaching that fits one student moves that student further than anything else, and most families can’t pay for it.
So we’re building Kenji: a tutor that shows the step on the board, for every student, alongside their teachers rather than around them. We started with the SAT.
How we build it
We build Kenji with teachers and students. We keep talking with teachers and tutors about where students get stuck, and we change Kenji based on what students do with it. What research says about how people learn shapes how Kenji teaches: you try first, Kenji teaches the step you missed, and your progress only counts what you get right on your own.
What we believe
- Every student deserves a teacher who shows the step, not only the answer.
- Kenji works alongside teachers. It does not replace them.
- Progress should count what a student can do on their own.
- We say plainly what is ready. Today that is the SAT; the rest is in development.
